Study in Balance No.3 (Spoonwhine)

Held in place by a vice grip, a soup spoon is balanced on the rim of a wine glass. The spoon subtly bobs and leans as the glass slowly rotates atop a motorized display stand. The movement of the glass under the weight of
the spoon produces music—three sounds in slow succession: a quiet grinding, a high ethereal pitch
(which crescendos and decrescendos) and silence. The conditions for this music are as fragile as the glass itself. The glass will not resonate if the spoon is moved even slightly, just as the glass will fall and break unless the spoon is placed in exactly the right spot.
